Prophecies for 2012: Mexican Government Cashes In
I know that many of my readers are skeptical about some of the prophecies for 2012 (it’s ok, I am skeptical too). However, here is a prophecy for 2012 that we can ALL believe in: the Mexican government is going to get PAID!
The Mexican government is planning to use all the prophecies for 2012 to attract more tourists to the country on and around the 2012 date. They are actually planning to promote the various prophecies of doom and destruction and tie them all into the Mayan Long Count Calendar. Although they are not saying the prophecies for 2012 are true, they are using the growing interest in the prophecies to attract tourists.
“Many foreign tourists would like to be in Mexico on that day and check the correctness of Mayan prophecies personally, and we are ready to satisfy their curiosity.” Gloria Guevara, Tourism Minister
Mexico is planning several different events in 2012. These events would be to explore the Mayan culture and history. They would also explore the Mayan calendar which is widely considered to be the most accurate time keeping system ever created.
Although many of the most popular prophecies for 2012 end in disaster or destruction, there are just as many that promote rebirth, enlightenment, and a new age. There is nothing in the existing ancient Mayan texts that explicitly promote the destruction prophecy. The actual idea of Armageddon on that date is a relatively recent one – Dr. Michael Coe actually suggested it in 1966, see his book Breaking the Maya Code.
Mexico is the 10th most visited country in the world. I wonder how it will rank in 2012? Will more tourists arrive? I bet that will come in droves! So, here is my prophesy for 2012: The Mexican government gets paid!
PS – Tell us in the comment section, would you like to spend December 21st 2012 in Mexico? I am not planning to go, but I do see the appeal.

I want to tell you how glad I am to be seeing more posts related to the Mayans again. I know you have to write about what people want, but I have been visiting this site since the Alexa score was >3M and it is interesting BECAUSE it is off the wall and well written.
I come to this site because I LIKE reading about Mayan Predictions and all that Indiana Jones type stuff. If I want to read about Japan I will goto CNN. The supermoon article was pretty cool though.
Point being, I will read about the Mexican tourist industry if it involves the Mayan predictions aspect. Get back to your roots webmaster!
