NASA, Meteorites, and DNA

NASA says meteorites have DNANASA has found DNA building blocks in an unlikely place – in meteorites.  That’s right, space DNA.  The idea is that similar rocks could have struck the Earth ages ago and therefore contributed to life on our planet.  Harold Camping would be going absolutely ape shit right now.

This discovery begs the question – if meteorites struck the Earth and affected life here… are they still impacting the Earth now?  If they are, what influence do they have on life here?

I know when you read about a meteorite on my website you are expecting me to talk about “the big one.”  But what if the concern here is not the big one… what if we should be more concerned about all the little ones?

Since the 1960s meteorites have been found housing DNA.  In the most recent studies, Michael Callahan believes that the DNA found actually came from space and not a result of contamination from Earth.  Twelve meteorites were tested and they contained adenine and guanine which are components of DNA.  Besides those components there was hypoxanthine and xanthine found as well as necleobase analogs.  The necleobase analogs are what shows the scientist that these specimens came from space since they are not usually seen in biology.

So over the years these meteorites have been striking Earth and bringing with them the building blocks of life – DNA.  What does this mean?  It could mean that life on Earth has been created from other entities from space.  Have these meteorites and their DNA been changing Earth as we know it?  Perhaps.

Many people believe that a meteorite or multiple meteorites will one day hit the Earth and cause the end of the world, maybe in 2012.  Maybe what is actually going to happen is a meteorite will strike Earth and just alter life as we know it.  That could mean many things.  Maybe the new life would make human life obsolete.  Maybe it could contaminate life and wipe humans out.  Maybe the loud explosion is not what we should fear, but the slow, deliberate, and silent DNA attack.

One thing is for certain, Earth is being bombarded with meteorites containing space DNA… alien DNA.  Of course, some believe this DNA contributed to life on Earth and our own DNA.  So who is the alien now?

Many people worry about a big meteorite crashing into Earth and destroying life in the near future (such as in 2012).  These people could be wrong.  The end of the world may be happening in smaller increments as we speak.  Or, perhaps not the end at all – perhaps just as the Mayans say “a new beginning.”

Just offering up this slightly off-beat article will get me some attacks from the Harold Camping’s out there, but doesn’t the Bible talk about a new heaven and a new Earth?  Who is to say this isn’t what the Bible means?
