Is the World Really Going to End in 2012?

Prophecies of 2012: Is the world going to end in 2012?
Now a popular date for the future, December 21st 2012 holds many prophecies and portents. Most of these prophecies have been made many years ago, with the first being attributed to the Ancient Mayans themselves. However, is the world going to end in 2012? To answer this question we must go back into the past with the predictions of the Ancient Mayans and the theories put forward today.
On December 21st 2012 the 5,125 year old Mayan long-count calendar depicting the fourth world period would come to a finale. The calendar would reset itself to 0.0.0.0. and restart a new world period the next day. Since the Mayans were talented mathematicians and astrologers, most of their predictions were quite accurate. Therefore, there are many believers in this Mayan prediction. However, there have been theories and predictions put by others as well in relation to this date.
Some people around the world are starting to put forward theories of the world ending in the year 2012. From World War III involving nuclear war to our entire galaxy being pulled in to an immense black hole, the future of the Earth might not seem too great. Several films have come out to suggest the possible fate of the Earth such as the movie “2012” which is in relation to assumptions made by scientists. These assumptions include several natural disasters destroying life, the increase in solar flares heating the earth, and the eruption of a super volcano located right under Yellowstone National Park in the United States. Although there are some reasons behind these these theories (some even logical), there is quite a lot of evidence to show otherwise too.
Is the world going to end in the year 2012? We will never know till the time arrives. These theories are quite scary to take into account, which is quite a popular reason for denying them. It is important to understand that the world has been through several disasters in the past; nevertheless, life has continued to exist amidst these events. Do not give up, but why not be as prepared as you possibly can? The end very well might come one day. It might not be on December 21st 2012, but it is better to know and ready ourselves rather than face it in denial.

I am still very skeptical on the end of the world. On the calendar date of the end of the world, it starts the winter solstice….. Just saying… BUT, what exactly makes the ending of the Mayan Calendar different from the other calendars that have already ended? We have been through many predictions before and lived through them all. Why is it that when in the year 2000, people worried, but no one ever stopped to think, ” its not going to end this year! Its is going to end in 2012!”
I’m just saying my opinion, I believe the weather is going to have a drastic change and that is probably it. Like right now. Winter 2011 where I live in Canada, there was A LOT of snow by by the beginning of November. And now, we have a VERY thin layer of snow, and it is nowhere near as cold as normal temperatures. Snow keeps melting, and then freezing. This is the warmest winter I remember ever having.
But its my opinion. No one has to believe me and I am not forcing it on anyone. I’m just stating my opinion.
The difference is that the Mayan calendar tracks an age. It is ending now after over 5000 years!
However, the world won’t end.
But another thing i dont get if the world ended so many times before then how did any of this mayan stuff survive through it ?
Im really scared , im only 19 i just had a baby , my boyfriend is in the national quard we are jus beginning out family and i keep hearing about the world ending and the stuff is crazy i dont wanna die that way and i dont want my baby to die i want her to grow up and have a life . But the weather has been so crazy and everything is just weird now so i dont kno what to think. I get so scared that i actually start crying. I really dont wanna die but how does anyone truly know if anything of what anybody saids is true?
I watched d 2012 movie and oh my gosh !it was freekin real…it kinda affectes me in one way dat am not so ecxited to c d new year …dat sounds crazy right?.certianly this world is gonna end someday but it shouldn’t be next year, or 6years from now …..one thing am sure of is that dis planet is too old for d stress she’s been put through by the nations in her ………………………
If you want anyone to ever take you seriously, stop writing like an idiot. <———– FREE ADVICE
The earth will not end in 2012 becuase god will not kill humans until everybody on earth believes in him and 2012 there will only be an small change in our DNA, not notacable to modern human science. Its an change that will prepare us for the final day…humans are not alone, someone helped us long ago to fix the earth in the future, its just we forgot about it…humans will get an upgrade, and that may change everything
I have no idea what you are talking about. An upgrade? Humanity 2.0? Are we overdue for an oil change? Are we an app?
i do not belive it the calender i belive some people killed the persons who were making the calender and it wasnt finished and thats how i think they got the idea and they are always meking some kind of an excuse for it
Well, just a tiny bit of reading would have shown you that:
1. The Long Count Calendar was complete – it is a cycle – this is not the first or the last.
2. No one is making excuses for anything. The Mayan calendar exists, it ends, get over it.
I think that the people that made the movie ” 2012″ should have not made that moivie its makeing pepleo think the world is gonna end. Its also freaking out liitle kids that watched it and that got them scared. But please the good lord don’t let the world end in 2012 we need to live
There are more “2012″ movies on the way! Two that I know of. I think maybe you should not watch them.
i dont want the world to end , lord please dont , im only 18 and havent done anything i waanted too do ; hopefully nothing bad happens until 100 of years from now so everyone can live there lives and so can my kids !
@ShayBadd
I do not think the world is going to end, but I think we need to make some changes.
I don’t know what is gonna b happend. I can die but I can’t see the world’s death.
Nayanee,
I agree with you. I think that no matter what happens, the earth will still be around.
glabal warming is gonna end the world…the mayan preticted biblical flooding in australia aswell as the super volcano…i think these floods have already started now in 2011 and the water in continuing to rise …and the mayans preticted ww2 and 9/11 ….if u ask me i think the end of life as we know it is near…houdini whos to say gods even real so i wouldnt go with that therory
When any disaster came to earth, there is no way to escape at all. It’s a matter of time that people die so I just urge to all people in the world to live in peace. Life is just too short and yet some people enjoy killing each other to shit!!! The last thing is that we only die once and there shall be no more death after that.
i do not think people should be talking about this, becuase it realy scares me to think about, im only 18 and i do not want to die, what exactly will happen?
Sarah, the Mayans call for a new beginning on that date. Not an end to life. Furthermore, Jesus said that no one knows the day but the Father (and he was talking about the His return). So please don’t fret. This site is not meant to worry you – but to just give some interesting information. No one knows exactly what might happen, but the world will not end.
There are a few people that I see each day at work that buy into this, and are actually starting to prepare for it by socking money away and developing plans to “live off the grid” when it happens. In my mind, the Earth will survive whatever we do to it, but if it gets people to start leading simpler lives, so much the better — especially if those predictions come true!
@Vincent, I wonder why they would prepare for a huge, world altering disaster by socking money away? Plus, won’t everyone be “off the grid” at this point? I think that the idea that “the world will survive whatever we do to it” is the kind of thinking that will eventually destroy the world. Just a thought.
I don’t believe at all, I think it will be some disaster effect on us but not something to destroy the entire planet. I remember in 1999 when everyone said that the world will ends at 2000 but nothing happens and as I remember there were not such evidence to support the fact. But now with the Mayans, there is a lot of evidence because as we know Mayans make a good predictions of the world and very accurate. I always have the doubt of what happened to the Mayans? why they disappear? where they go?
@Grrrr, The Mayans did not actually predict that the world would end – just that December 21st 2012 will be the end of an age. Others have interpreted that to mean the end of the world or life or whatever. No one truly knows what happened to the Mayans.
I do not believe that the world is going to end in 2012. For years people have been predicting years the world would end and we are all still here. It reminds me about all the hype about Y2K. People were getting themselves all worked up for nothing. You should just live your life and don’t ruin it by freetting about these things.
I agree with you cause people said that the world would end on 6-06-06 also but yet we are still here! So I say we should live our lives as we want to and quit worrying about this prediction. The people that beleive this prediction are afraid of what could happen but it most likely won’t happen!
I don’t believe these predictions and I think it is ridiculous to live in fear with the thought that the world is going to end in 2012. I believe that our planet might show some reaction for the way we have abusing earth since decades. I think, the worst that can happen is people getting killed or injured in calamities; both natural and man-made. We see new reports about oil-spills, nuclear leaks, deforestation etc, all this will come back to haunt us.
@Sarah, I do not want anyone to live in fear either, but I see no harm in preparing as best that you can for a disaster. If you have the means, what harm does it do? It will give you piece of mind and perhaps the supplies (or whatever you have saved up) will come in handy on another day.
I remember when some families kept everyone home and spent the entire day together. What harm was there in that? Do you think that they felt bad about preparing for nothing? I think that they were relieved and the worst that came of it was some family time.
I agree an end is certain by the way we treat our planet. However, we may not see this end for decades, centuries, or even a millennium . I find the different 2012 theories and debates to be very interesting, personally though I feel the Mayans just needed to end the calendar. As you said we wont know till it is here, but in my personal opinion I think a lot of people will be left on December 22nd 2012 as disappointed as some people where left January 1st 2000. All we can do is live and love to the fullest because life can end at any moment whether it is total annihilation of our species or a random isolated death of a single loved one.
