Mayan Calendar – 2012: the big date! With the recent fear, curiosity, and excitement about the onset of the Armageddon on December 21st 2012, one can certainly wonder how it is going to take place.
Many wonder how this specific date was chosen. Some claim that this prophecy is just a bunch of old wives’ tales that found their way onto the internet. However, this particular predicted date was not picked out of random. Here are five terrifying reasons the world will end in 2012:
1. The Mayan Calendar
The ending of the Mayan calendar is one of the most well known signs of the apocalypse on December 21st 2012. On this very date the Mayan long-count calendar resets itself to 0.0.0.0. and restarts the next day. Thus, it suggests the end of life and rebirth. However, many skeptics argue that the Mayans believed in the beginning of a time of change and tribulation rather than death and destruction. Nevertheless, this sign definitely hints that something would happen on this date.
2. The I-Ching Prophecies
One of the most shocking revelations for 2012 involved the I-Ching prophecies. These Ancient Chinese predictions show the events of the past and future. Some research seems to indicate that these predictions are accurate for events that have already taken place. Unfortunately one of the events foretold in the I-Ching prophecies is the coming of the Armageddon on December 21st 2012.
3. Geomagnetic Reversal
According to some scholars, the Earth is expected to go through a polar shift sometime during the end of 2012. This phenomenon involves the Earth’s North and South Pole interchanging rapidly. As a result, malfunction and confusion would occur. Animals are expected to lose direction and electronics are expected to breakdown. In addition, scientists are also expected major movement of tectonic plates which would result in many natural disasters.
(Update: January, 2011, there have been a great number of animal deaths recently that have been all over the news: 5000 blackbirds in Arkansas and Louisiana and up to 100,000 drum fish in the Arkansas river. I do not know if these are related, but many have wondered and I have received a lot of email about a possible connection.)
Now, this type of event would normally take place over a very long period of time – yet some feel it may occur abruptly.
4. Black Hole Alignment
Another theory involves the alignment of the galactic center. It is expected that the alignment would create a combined effect of a gravitational pull between the black hole and the sun at the galaxy’s center; also known as ‘Sagittarius A’. Due to the pull, the Earth would likely face many problems. However, this incident has occurred in 1998. Research has shown that the Earth needs to be much closer to the Sun in order to face adverse effects.
5. The Web Bot
Quite a popular program, the Web Bot is a series of automated bots that search for specific keywords on the internet. On finding these keywords, the program searched for a pattern too. Apparently, Web Bot predicted the September 11th attacks and the tsunami in 2004. Now it has predicted the Armageddon on December 21st 2012.
One can question the validity of these predictions. Nevertheless, it is ironic as to how all these forecasts are pointed to one specific date and come from completely different sources. So follow the signs that the world will end in 2012 and be prepared for the worst to come. This does not mean that you begin creating a hide-away bunker right away, but it does mean that you should be more alert and not ignore the slightest warnings. The world is so updated with technology that the secret would be out before you know it.

So, am I saying the world will end or not? I cannot say because I do not know for sure. I do not think that anyone should completely dismiss the idea of 2012. However, I do not believe it will end the world. Will something happen? Even a catastrophe? I do not know …and neither does anyone else.

All fascinating – a lot of HUGE ego’s at work here methinks! Just one question to all you experts – absolute extinction of a population of above 5 billion is unlikely in the event of natural disaster (am I right? I am and always will be, an adamant proprietor of the scientific method and conclusion from observation. Yet it is conclusion from observations of current events that increasingly convince me that that there is something very, very wrong going on in the world today.
First is the continual deprecation of the US dollar, as historically a collapsing currency’s last days are usually marked by a short period of economic collapse, followed by a ‘false’ recovery (a small, slow climb in value facilitated by the sudden inclusion of vast amounts of the currency into the market system) and then catastrophic failure. The German Mark and British Sterling are prime examples of modern failed currency though it stands to reason that similar market failures also plagued the Roman, Egyptian and other ancient empires in the period before their dissolution. Also the dollar is slowly but surly being phased out of many institutions and governments collections of assets which is adding to the weakening of the status of the US dollar in the Global economy
Second is the increasing global tensions and decreasing global violence. In any society tension and violence go hand in hand. Yet today, as tension increases around the Globe, violence decreases which seems to signal a ‘calm before the storm’ effect, though I could be off base on this as this is not my area of expertise.
Thirdly is continuing infringement on personal liberties by the US government which is contributing to domestic social unrest and malcontent. On this note it can also be noted the only Presidential candidate that has a proven track record of advocating personal liberities is also the one most adamantly dismissed by mainstream media, which suggests that an increasing number of Americans (the ones that drive ratings and media-paychecks at least) are supporting the socialist state path that the US has began to follow
Finally what worries me the most is the end product of the these three main factors as they continue to develop hand in hand. Back in the early 1930s Germany was marked by very similar factors, collapsing economy, increasing demand by the people or its leaders to ‘take care of them’, as the world ‘pacified’ in a sense after the end of the Great War. The results of this cocktail on a relatively moderate to minor power still concluded in a firestorm that consumed the entire world a decade later. Even if the US does not experience the same level of desperation that Germany did I worry that by increasing the power and central importance of the collapsing entity you exponentially increase the effect of the collapse, whereas the magnitude of the collapse itself is less important in determine its effects.
Essentially what Im trying to say is that I am worried about the collapse of Western economics and power and the ensuing power vacuum that would result and the shiftiest that would ensue as the growing world powers (most notably the far east) fight over the scraps, and thats assuming they survive the collapse of the dollar as the World Reserve Currency. The most drastic possibility, the one that keeps awake at night, is that no one gets out of the dollar in time to avoid its collapse and the entire Global economy collapses. If that occurs, Global tension will snap into violence like an overstretcted Rubber band and the only political entities that survive in any form will be far-right socialist states like Nazi Germany or Soviet Russia (or a more benign comparison, kingdoms of old like Medieval Britain, France and Spain. A war with a fanatical Right-wing regime on one side against freedom lovers was one nightmare, the same conflict between two or more extreme right-wing radical power bases scares the living shit out of me. It is for these reasons that I feel 2012 is a critical year but its outcome WILL DEPEND SOLEY ON THE ACTIONS AND STANCES OF THE HUMAN RACE DURING 2012. This will only be the end of the World if we allow it to be.
When economies are struggling,caused by greed and too many financial institutions offering cheap deals trying to make a fast buck, this will only cause financial instability. Whilst the eurozone will take 5-10 years to right itself, it will cause poverty and migration. Whilst we continue to drill, mine And farm the world of its natural resources to feed an over subscribed world that will never recover, the end of the natural world as we know it will not be far off. As a race, with the power to create, destroy, cause death and starvation, should we be allowed to continue our existence. It is obvious that without some form of harmony of the earths resources,as a race we will not survive.

If this is so, what is pumping millions of barrels of oil out of the middle east doing to the earth. Better be ready for some movement? I’ve noticed a shift in sun light coming in our west windows. I am no scientist, but what you are describing is called fracturing.
There are some who say we are destroying the earth’s crust by drilling and that is what they are calling it: “fracturing.”
“Fracturing” is done after the well is drilled, it splits the ground on a horizontal plane at the level in the well at which they perforate the well casing, fluid is forced out into the production zone. This fluid is made up of gel, a breaker, acid, nitrogen and sand. The fluid is pumped in under pressure, it is then shut in for about thirty minuets to an hour. After the gel and acid breaks down the well is open back up and the nitrogen pushes the acid and gel back out of the well, leaving the sand in place to fill the newly created gap which will allow the oil or gas to flow or be pumped out of the well. Most of the time that this operation is preformed, it is well below any fresh water zone. Fracturing has been done for years without any ill effects. What we a experiencing currently is a global real estate shift, I.E. earth quakes, in my opinion that are not caused by fracturing.

This is just a theory of mine, only a theroy. However, I have been thinking about this for a long time. The earth has been through many ice-ages in it’s 500 plus million years. I cannot tell when the last ice age occurred, some say 50,000 years ago; others say 200,000 years ago. However, the thing that worries me, is that both believe that it is about time for another ice-age to come. My theory is that humans or a humanoid type of mammal has been walking this earth for a long time, an had become extint due to these mini-ice ages. These mini-ice ages would definately wipe out the existence of life all over the planet, but some will be spared, but will evolve into better than the last humans that walked the earth. Example: the dinosaurs, exitinct? or evolved (look at an alligator lately?) Neanderthals, extinct or evolved? I don’t know. What do you think?

I’m not sure what to believe. If you notice, there has been alot of earthquakes, even in areas where they wouldn’t normally be. Then there are other signs to look at. If it is going to happen, there is nothing we can do about it. I have seen the movie “2012″ many times, as it is very eery to what is happening now & what might happened. I don’t know what to believe.
It was pointed out in Revalations that there will be many earthquakes before Jesus comes back. Also, God has told us many times that no man knows the true end of time. Only God Himself knows the actual day of The Messiah’s return.

You mention Mayan and I Ching prophecies, but what about all the other prophecies which also point to Dec 2012 as end times. Here are a few more who predict Dec 2012 as the end:- Islamic prophecy in the Quran, Hindu prophecy, Taosim prophecy, Catholic prophecy (St Malacay), Hopi prophecy,Aborigini prophecy, also Notradamus, Einstein, Edgar Cayce, they all point to the same time for a catastrophic event.

Yeah man exactly! I’m only 23 and sick of the way the world works. The human race is like a semi-parasite atm consuming the earth and oil of which we will run out of. There is so much imbalance with money, power and quality of life.. The next 2 years will be extremely significant! It’s logically time for a new age and a big step in our evolution. I’m really hoping we will finally find an infinite energy source that works like the sun or something and that ETs are disclosed to us and they will help us evolve. I don’t believe the world will end on some magical date in 2012, people have been saying this for years, however there are things we should worry about:-
1.Peak Oil – the insane thing is not to believe in peak oil, it’s a finite resource and we’re discovering less and less of the stuff daily.
2.Our economies in the West, in recession, with politicians selling us snake oil solutions, I have yet to be convinced by any right or left wing politician that they can get us out of this mess, they are powerless.
3. Social unrest. As looking at the turmoil on the streets of Europe, I have little doubt we will see this in America too, very soon, and the scary thing is, the loonies have guns which could make things so much worse.
4.Nuclear weapons. No explanation needed, there’s constant war and conflict on this planet, it might only take one nutty nation to end it for all of us.
A combination of the above could very well end us as a civilisation, and there’s nothing that my favourite fictional characters like God, Jesus, Muhammed, Buddha and Batman can do about it, well maybe Superman could make a difference

Despite all this, I’m not going to lose any sleep, I’ll continue beng nice to people, continue going to work, continue having a good time and I’ll buy a freaking iPhone 5 when it comes out lol. We have survived many natural disasters in the past, this is just one more disaster that we can prepare for and be able to survive as well. I for one plan to survive the “End of the World”.

Here’s what I feel (Being that nothing is for certain, one must go on gut instinct): I feel that with all this commotion of Dec. 21st, 2012, we find ourselves in a state of panic as time gets closer. Just like Y2K. The problem I see is the belief factor and how it can actually trigger phenomena, not by nature but by man. Armageddon can happen in many ways including a massive world panic causing war. Let’s say, after the fact, most of the major cities have burned, most probably will believe that it was asteroids and earthquakes when indeed it was the world’s military’s using bombs and special weapons us ignorant citizens have no idea about. I agree that we can never be certain or let our guard down but keep in mind that a massive panic will make us self-implode rather than letting nature take it’s course. I don’t know anything about the Mayans or the calendar but I just had a thought. Could it possibly be that the guy making the calendar died, became really sick, got bored, went to do another job and never had a chance to get back to it after finishing at 2012 or is it made in such a way that this can not be the case?
No, it was created to end specifically that day – and then the next cycle starts the next day.
That still intrigues me. Doomsday gets thrown around a lot but then there’s always that “next cycle” that starts the “next day”. Sounds like the beginning of a new era to me.

Though I am not a believer in the “end of the world” of 2012, there was a very unique knowledge our ancestors of old possessed. The Bible along with many other religious stories all seem to fall back to the infamous fable of Noah’s Ark, Atlantis?…..whatever you want to call it. I would probably be very aware of what these cultures have intombed to what they feel like is important. Especially considering how we are still trying to make sense of how they manipulated 70 + ton stone blocks into buildings that have lasted thousands of years.
In my opinoin man as been here far longer than we say in our history books. We’ve been erased by something horrific in the distant pass. There is simply way to much evidence that disagrees with our current way of thinking. To what and why it happened, one can only speculate.

Regarding Dec. 21st 2012. I don’t know if planet earth will fall down and go boom. If it does there is nothing we can do about it and we aree all in the same boat. If it doesn’t life will go on the way it does. To sit around and worry about it is nonsense. I think we all have better things to think about and concentrate on.
The terrible things happening is a real eye opener but no one knows the day or hour for the second coming. If we stay ready we need not fear because God will protect his children. I personally think we are living in the last days and I watch and pray. Those who laugh or make fun may God have mercy on their souls.
You say God will “protect” his children as if they will come to no harm. Anyone can look around this planet at the unimaginable suffering of innocents to see that is not true.
Now, I believe God protects us in ways that we do not understand. However, if you think that gives you a “no suffering” clause you are in for a rude awakening.
I am a believer in our Lord and Savior. Spiritual but not religious. I also believe that he gave us our lives to live out how we see fit. I do have to agree with you on the no suffering though. We suffer daily no matter how strong our faith is but I believe that this is in fact, our way of showing our determination to continue on a good path. To protect our fellow beings and to not fear the wicked. Pain is part of life and we all endure it. It’s within us all to understand and initiate the extent of suffering we will endure. We are but materials of this earth. Just like all things, we will continue on and flourish in one way or another. Don’t give in to fear of the end. Today or a thousand years from now, we all will retire eventually. Painful or not, it’s death and death does not have to be a bad thing. Just another walk of life. Be happy!
i have a theory, it involves nibiru and its anticipated return in the next 18 months. a planet 4x earth mass passing 40,000 miles above earth surface between the sun and us. last seen circa 1630bc its orbit is around 3600yrs. Mayan referrences are found relating to “dark star” “destroyer” etc etc . such a passing would have a profound magnetic effect on earth poss resulting in slowing/stopping of rotation, plate shifts and huge tsunami’s. interesting how all mention has disappeared from media since its discovery in 1983????????

It’s way too rediculous to think that these Mayan people had a guy making these crazy calendars and just because it started over means it’s the end of the world. Do you know how many times they have said it’s the end of the world? Like a million times. I can’t get all freaked out about it And add to the panic like you all. Because there have been many “End of The World” stories. None of them truth, or we wouldn’t be here. Besides, the Mayan Calendar does not mean end of the world, it means a new beginning for many reasons, or as people say “The end of the world as we know it” which sounds frightening but it just means the world will change.

I have read about depending on how you view our Gregorian calendar that it could be December 21st or December 23rd. Can anyone guess why the 21st is the one so widely used? It is the Winter Solstice.

I don’t know, I think the prediction was pretty vague. Kind of like that Nostradamus quote about the Twin Towers and the angry birds striking it (that’s not how it goes, but you get the idea).

hello, I personally am a strong believer…of the cold hard physical facts, # 3, and 4 with out a doubt…will occur. i have done a lot of research in this subject, and am an amateur astrologist, and the facts are written in blood on the walls.

Out of the 5, I am surprised that you picked #3 and #4 to be the ones with physical facts.
I mean, yes we can go through a geomagnetic reversal, but it has only happened so long ago – how can we know the facts? I mean the scientists TRY, but they cannot even agree. We have to wonder which scientist is right and which one is just pissing in the wind. You know?
Personally, I think #4 is a load of crap. I know, I know, it is in my own article, but there just doesn’t seem to be any merit. I don’t often trust what the government says about anything, but NASA seems to be clear on this one.

I obviously believe very strongly in the Mayan Calendar – it irrefutably exists and will be ending in December of 2012. The questions arise from what that means. Personally I think it will be the end of an age and the beginning of a new age. I do NOT believe it will be the end of the world.
What I wish I had added to this list… and hell, it is my list, so I may add it… is the predictions of Nostradamus. The reasons Nostradamus predictions are not on the list is because he never said anything specifically about 2012. However, enough people are asking about him that I might as well write it in.

well of course you can just say there will be a catastrophe all over the world. You look like an idiot walking down the streets shouting with a banner the end of the world like in the movies.. of course you need to know. how the hell will that happen. as you know tsunami occurs because of earthquakes and quakes occurs due to,. etc etc and so forth. you cant just say.. if your a well known like the president you can’t just say,. good bye as foretold it is the end,. no one will believe you.
# 3 is practically impossible. A pole shift will not occur overnight, it takes thousands of years for it to happen, it is not just go to sleep and the next day the poles are shifted and destruction and chaos appear. Out of all,even though I don’t quite believe in the end of the world, I would choose the Mayans calendar. Most of the other theories have been refuted or simply don’t make sense at all. However, I, as houdini, believe that if the Mayan calendar really has any meaning at all, it wouldn’t be the end of the world but the end of this age and the beginning of a new one. We are approaching 21st December 2012 and still there hasn’t been any real facts on this topic. If anything is to happen, I do not think it would just be one day (like the 2012 movie, in one day the whole Earth is destructed by all kinds of natural disasters), it is nearly impossible for the world to end in just one day. It would be more plausible to believe a series of chaotic events would happen and get worse until December 21st. Still, even with the Japanese earthquake and tsunami, we cannot 100% link them with this matter, we will just have to wait.
I have family who say the same (or similar), that the ending of the Mayan calendar is momentous, but that the new age beginning the next day will be the beginning of a process for change. The limited writing that remains of the Mayans’ discussing past ages does seem to indicate they believed in an amazing ending – something dramatic – but couldn’t that just be their own celebration? One point that all the doomsayers seem to miss is that the Mayan calendar DOES have predictions that occurred LATER than our 2012. One in particular is about the return of a king that is a thousand years away. (I know I am not quoting this exactly, sorry.) My point is that they must not have believed it was the end of the world.
It may be a one day big change, but at least #3 cannot happen that way at all, since a magnetic pole reversal would take years for it to happen.
I agree with your point of view. Although I did not know the Mayans predicted things after 2012 (that is a good sign isnt it!). I have also read a couple of reports that state that the Mayan Calendar’s end has not been accurately calculated and that it may not be in 2012. However, I completely agree with your thoughts. Maybe it is the beginning of a new age, but I do not think that it was something that would happen in a 24 hour time period. Doomsayers are, ironically, the ones who seem to know the least about 2012 and the Mayan Calendar and predictions.
There are two ways that people seem to mention 2012, one is “Armageddon is coming, it is the end of all times” which I totally disagree and most evidence seems to point against that, and the other is “The end of the world AS WE KNOW IT” which does not mean the world will end, but change. There are several chances, of all of them I consider the chance of the world ending at the bottom of the list, and on the top of the list I think nothing will happen, but then again, I think this way only because all this recent information and studies are not clear or totally proven yet.
If the Mayans were right in their prediction, then I totally agree that it must be a new beginning, a new era, and if this new era will bring us a chance to change and do good, then I’ll gladly wait for the moment. I would only feel sorry if this new era will cost death and destruction (which seems to be that way, unless these recent catastrophes are not related to this at all, which it’s my hope) All we can do is wait.

of course it is the main predicament,. that is why they called it in some manner, the mayan prediction, and the thought that it is the mayan that predicted it, is the main reason people talk about it and think about it and even reason out about, because as we all know what mayans have been known for.
With all the recent natural disasters, it’s like some kind of beggining to the end. They become more frequent and much more devastating. Also the phenomena with the birds dropping dead in flight and the fish all dying. These are all unheard of things going on.
If it does end in 2012 then I’ve had a fantastic life. I will however do everything in my power to protect my kids so they can also enjoy a full and rewarding life.
To be honest, I’m not worried in the slightest as I think we are all safe and armageddon wont happen in any lifetime relating to any of us.

No one can do that. There just is no concrete proof either way. The Japan earthquake this morning is certainly being viewed by many as a sign though…
However – here are 10 reasons the world will not end.
i certainly believe that it will not be an end, no one says it will end? it just said a catastrophe may occur, that will lead to many destructive events. but nobody says the earth will end. i just think maybe something may bound to happen. who knows it might be my birthday( hahaha just breaking the ice)

I just have one question. Didn’t Jesus say that many would predict that day and many would be wrong but some would be right? Now, I do NOT mean to say that I am predicting any date – because I am most certainly not. I just do not think you are correct in dismissing any date that man has come up with.
This Japanese earthquake and tsunami just hit about an hour ago and so a lot of people are pretty scared right now. I just don’t want you to dismiss something without looking into it first.

the earthquake that boomed japan recently? they have already expected that it would be coming just like the great kanto earhquake..( i know that ’cause i know some from japan like some of my professors who graduated in tokyo U) although they predicted it way early that caught them off guard. People makes certain mistakes but don’t tell me that it is man dated cause can date things right and capable.
im not saying thats i dont beleive someting is going to happen in 2012 but i dont think the world is gonna end. i think its gonna end as WE KNOW IT everything we have ever been taught we are going to have to apply it in every day task because we will never have anything as easy as we do now. And the reason i think that is because i feel that god is done mad at everyone for perdicting the end of time. No offense but im an atheist and here are 3 reasons why:
1. Church really isnt my thing and neither is organized religion on account of when i was 12 my pastor told me my best friend Blake was evil just because he was into wicca. Theres also the whole Witch trials and Burning times.
2. Over the past 4 centuries, Christians have been killing innocent people. Mothers, Fathers, Animals, Children and even innocent babies, Because of the fear that babies will grow up to be witches.
3. Because they say anyone who believes in something different than whats in the bible or doesnt believe in anything at all is evil and will go to hell. What are we not allowed to think for ourselves or find our own path in this world? Also who the hell are you to pass judgement on others? Plus doesnt the bible say not to do that?
4. Have you seen this person you call your god? No. And how can anyone say god is a guy and not a girl? Fucking Sexist. Plus you worship a god you have never once seen and cannot really say he or she exists, but one of the 10 Commandment says thou shall not worship false idols.

Besides mayans were an extremely intelligent amazing race, and noone knows their story completely. They might have been human, alien, or heaven if it exists. How can you say their wrong when you never met them and do not fully understand them?
