There has been a fair amount of tumult concerning the date December 21st 2012. Globally many people are paying particular interest to the to the prophesied events of December 21st 2012. Many theories have been put forward to perhaps try and explain the true meaning behind these prophecies. Some people believe that the December 21st 2012 prophecies would be brought about by natural disasters. On the other hand, others reckon that the end of the world would be due to something man-made such as a nuclear war. However, there is also the minority who believes this theory is a whole horde of bovine feces.

So what are the prophecies of December 21st 2012? There are three main sources of knowledge that have led to the onset of debates on the supposed end of the world on December 21st 2012: the Ancient Mayans, science and religion. One can question the legitimacy of these predictions. However, the prophecy of the Ancient Mayans is one that cannot be ignored.

The Mayans were an ancient civilization that was skilled in astronomy amongst many other skills. Their prophecy details the end of a World Age on December 21st 2012. This is due to their long count calendar ending on December 21st 2012 and resetting to 0.0.0.0. However, they have not exactly predicted the end of life, but rather the world entering a time of violent change and transition from one World Age to another. It can be viewed as a moment where we must all transform our human culture into one of harmony, not only with ourselves, but with each other as well. The lack of information does lead to many questions about this particular date. Many people believe that the earth is to experience some great natural disaster, and this is where science helps shed some light into the prophecies concerning December 21st 2012.

Science plays an important role in the interpretation and rational understanding of the December 21st 2012 prophecies. Scientists are quite concerned about the increased formation of solar flares appearing on the sun. This particular predicament can result in the destruction of satellites, which will cause a global meltdown. Furthermore, it is believed that the earth will be faced with many natural disasters as a result of the predicted swap of earth’s magnetic poles, which in turn can be attributed to the increase in solar flares that occurred 780, 000 years earlier. This switch would result in the earth rotating in the opposite direction and weakening of the ozone layer. Death and destruction could possibly be the finale of this event as all life on earth would not be able to survive without its protective ozone layer. These disasters are quite similar to those predicted by many religions.

Although a date has not been set, the end of time is mentioned in many religions. In the Christian Bible, the end of days is described as the Armageddon; which is brought upon by natural disasters and wars. According to the Holy Qu’uran, the end of days begins when the earth’s rotation is reversed, as predicted when the magnetic poles swap positions on December 21st 2012. Moreover, according to the Chinese book of Changes, 2012 signifies a year of great transformation.

Not all of the December 21st 2012 prophecies may be accurate. However, it is always good to be prepared for the worst. In a way, every prediction made does relate to each other. Yet, how should people grasp these prophecies? Most of these predictions do forecast quite a lot of destruction and therefore it is only normal to start panicking. One can perceive these prophecies for December 21st 2012 to end with utter chaos and destruction or to just be a phase of transition. Guess we shall have to be patient till the time comes about.
