2012! It seems like everyone is talking about it. Will the world end? Is this new year our last?
Hey everyone, please consider this an op-ed piece. I will be happy to update this article with answers to any questions you may post below in the comments.
First, allow me to go on record and say that THE WORLD WILL NOT END IN 2012! There is nothing in the Mayan writings (that survived) to indicate anything different. Yes, the long count calendar does finally come to an end in December of 2012, but that is all. Nothing there suggests world destruction. An end to an age, yes. World destruction or Armageddon, no.
I know that you have seen the article on my site: 5 Signs the World Will End in 2012 (or even my viral YouTube video 5 Signs the World Will End in 2012). I created them because so many people were asking about the subject. I was sure to end the article with my personal opinion – I do not believe the world will end in 2012.
The YouTube video was really created just to add a link to my site – a way to help people find MayanPredictions.net – definitely not something I have to worry about now! Today, New Years Eve, I have over 20k visitors. The traffic has even shut the site down twice today. Even that horrible video has over 50k views – the counter is stuck on 43k but it has been that way for awhile now.
All this has told me that so many people are absolutely riveted with the idea of the apocalypse – the end of the world! I get so many questions:
Will the world end in 2012? How will the world end in 2012? Why will the world end in 2012?
So, allow me to answer these questions for you.

Why will the world end in 2012?
The answer is no. At least, there is no better chance than any other year in the history of the world. Nothing according to the Mayans or Nostradamus or I-Ching or any other damn thing. Is a world ending event possible? Sure, just ask the dinosaurs! However, the Mayans have absolutely nothing to do with a world ending event. There 5000+ year calendar cycle does come to an end at dawn on December 21st, 2012. (Remember, the Mayan day begins and ends at dawn – not midnight.) However, that signifies the end to an age – not the world.
Well, the Nostradamus view has always been a meteor, comet, or nuclear war – depending on how you interpreted the quatrains. Another popular belief that has been gaining ground recently has been an earthquake. Other options are the polar shift, solar flares, and a rogue planet collision.
The truth is that none of these have any real factual basis. Could we enter another ice age? Yes, eventually, that will certainly happen, but it isn’t like it would be instantaneous. Could we be hit by a meteor or comet large enough to change the world? Yep. Will the poles shift? Yes, it has happened before!
Look, the earth has been here a lot longer than the human race and will definitely be here long after we are a distant memory. Short of an Alderaan type incident, I am sure the earth will be just fine.
The real question here I think is – “Why do people BELIEVE the world will end in 2012?”
The answer is because of just one guy – Michael Coe. Yep, it is his fault! Now, before you start thinking Michael Coe is just a crackpot, know that he is an archeologist with a doctorate from Harvard who has worked for the CIA. No joke.
Dr Michael Coe – one of the greatest living experts on ancient Mayan civilization – said (in 1966) that the end of the Mayan calendar could actually be the biblical Armageddon. That’s it. That’s what really started it all! Now, for nearly 50 years, we have been building this up in our social conscience. The powder keg is about to explode.

So why is their so much buzz on the history channel about nosterdomis perdictig the end of the wrold and why is it most people talking about it on TV are Arthurs of 2012 books? Are they just trying to get money by scarring people.
They are exploiting the hype to raise advertising dollars. The more people that are interested – the more people who watch – the more $ they make.
I’ve been telling people this for ages that the Mayan calender ending is just the change of age, from Pisces to Aquarius. What happened to the Mayans after the calender ending no one can really tell. But We don’t have to worry about the world ending, it won’t happen. What we need to worry about is the shadow governments or illuminati that stage world events on specific dates and astronomy/ astrology events. The next big event looks to be the London olympics. So many signs from the one eyed mascots, a illuminati card with exploding big Ben with ppl wearing the colours of the Olympic rings, olympic site built on old nuclear site to the admitting the logo has a zionist link?? So many politicians have said we need a major catastrophy to create a NWO and a one world currency it is bound to happen, its just a question of when????

Um,I don’t know wat to actually say about all of this!I’m noy a superstitious person but I do believe in certain things(with proof ofcourse).there is some truth to all of this whether u like it or not!I believe somthing major will happen to change the earth…maybe not all the things people r sayin..but definately something!!!

I am a little bit of a worrier and the thought of dying haunts me! Reading these comments makes me feel a little better but I have been recently informed of another reason as to why the world will end.. About 10yrs ago archaeologists found 2 drawings chipped out of stone which shows god and 2012 on both and whatever visted them yrs ago will come back. I’m not so clued up on any of this! I’m not a very clever person either lol I’m kinda abit scared!
Who were these archaeologists and where was this artifact that they found? I have never heard anything about it – and believe me, I hear it all and then some.

Thank you for this article! I have never been superstitious or believed in any such prophecy before in my life but for some reason (unknown to me or anyone I know) this ‘prediction’ had me in a right fluster. But somehow some muppet planted the horrific idea of an mega disaster into my head and I haven’t slept properly for days!!! and I have been trying to find some information to set my mind at ease but most others I have read and only fueled my worry. Anyhow, I pleased to have read this one and feel much better so thanks.

TV survives by advertising dollars that are increased only by viewership. Sensationalism and fear-mongering attracts audiences.
Hey i would like to state my view on why 2012 won’t end with a meteor or 9.+ major earthquake or water tsunami or any of that stuff. If you look at all the stuff all around earthquake to start it off has been in our world since we were born and before that earthquake are things that adjust our land based on rotation and wobbliness of our world and no we’re not gonna fall in some hole in our universe, eartquake actually adjust our pieces of land together as when they were into pieces like glue and putting two pieces with glue together thats it and volcanoes are like glue. Tsunami are something that have happened before in our world and its no end of the world and if you’re soo feared of tsunamis then go take swimming lessons and scuba diving courses and believe me you’ll not be scared s**tless about water at all as it is lighter then us and its like swimming in swimming pool. Other things like solar flare, Gamma burst, Pole switching and whatever else are there are simple things to explain yet media make it “hype” to scare the bejebus out of us. Gamma ray and solar flare are part of universe cycle of sun and sun has to let go of its gas somewhere and no it doesn’t burn earth into a marshmallow because our planets such as moon, mars, mercury, venus and all have outter layer of protective sheild all around and those burst are not strong at all to burn that sheild off’ve us and kill us well not just yet maybe in millions or billion of years. As far as other things like Nuclear war or alien domination..Nuclear war is because of all the hate that our politicians and our people have burned ourselves in and if our people of this world turn out like douchebags and im sorry for this language but if thats how people turn into then the 3rd person (evil) takes over us and turns us into this so yeah i wouldn’t be surprised if we die with nuclear war because of all of us. Love each other people, help the ones in need and help someone that is poor then you even though you might not get anything back or no thank you from them. Trust me im not soo religious myself but i myself was diagnosed with central canal stenosis and im only 27 turned jan. 1 and that taught me alot in life after not being able to work for 2 years and always resting in bed. So morale to that is that enjoy life cause you could die even before anything. Other things like mayan calander and all this stuff is there but as simple as this death can be right now tommorow day after or after or after you might not even see it coming but stop panicing this stuff is where evil comes in and making people hungry for the green money so people come up with alot of things to do what they can to ruin other people’s mind but remember good is gonna win at the end not evil. Great to read your response, its really humbling. I agree with you that people are worrying about the wrong thing… the world is not coming to an end anytime soon. Im also glad that you are not stressing yourself on the issue cos stress is the last thing you need in your life now. Hope you are keeping well dont overwork yourself, stay relaxed andthe stenosis will become a thing of the past in your life soon.

If you think the world is not going to end in 2012, why has the mayan calendar stoped on the 21st december instead of the 31st?
You know, I did say I would answer any question… so:
The Mayan calendar ends on the Winter solstice – not the last day of the year. Their calendar is solar.
Our Gregorian calendar is different from what the Mayans were using. It took scientists and archeologists many years to correlate the two calendars so that we can know exactly what day in our calendar is the last day in theirs.
The Maya believed that every new day was a god – born at dawn – which is why their day begins at dawn and not midnight.
The Maya had many different calendars – a religious, a solar, a calendar round (that combined the two), and the long count.
